Brassai's Paris

"The surreal effect of my pictures was nothing more than reality made fantastic through a particular vision. All I wanted to express was reality, for nothing is more surreal....My constant aim was to make people see an aspect of daily life as if they had discovered it for the first time." Those are Brassai's words in regards to his work and the Surrealists. The image above says so much about the love that his lens saw in the shadows & dark alleys; between lovers, thugs, prostitutes & thieves. Brassai's The Secret Paris of the '30s
